The Halal Food Control Division (BKMH) under the Belait District Religious Affairs Office yesterday made a visit to a supermarket in Kuala Belait following complaints by the public about a dog seen in the premises.
In the message which went viral on Tuesday, allegations were made against workers of a supermarket who were accused of keeping a brown dog at the rear of the shop that used to frequent the meat section of the premises.
The message alleged that workers enter the shop to cut meat without washing their hands after touching the animal.
According to the Head of the Religious Office of Kuala Belait, Awang Haji Asminan bin Haji Chuchu, a visit was made to the supermarket on Wednesday morning which confirmed that the allegations were false.
However, according to the supervisor of the supermarket, a stray dog which was spotted around the exterior area of the facility has been caught and transported away from the premises.
According to Haji Asminan, BKMH also made a follow up visit during which they advised the management to carry out a 'menyertu' cleaning procedure, especially at the loading and unloading bay. The clean-up was carried out by the Muslim staff of the supermarket under the guidance of BKMH yesterday.
He further stated that BKMH has advised the management of supermarkets to always take precautionary action and ensure that the interior and exterior of the supermarket are clean.
