Mayor Duterte Offers P2-M Bounty For Davao Bombers

MANILA

Mayor Sara Z. Duterte yesterday offered a P2-million reward for the perpetrators of the deadly Davao City blast last Friday at the city’s busy night market.

She revealed this at Monday’s flag-raising ceremony, saying P1 million will go to whoever can give information on the suspects’ whereabouts and another P1 million for whoever can turn over the suspects to her.

The mayor said the perpetrator must be presented to authorities alive.

“We want him alive because we want all the necessary information we can get from him,” Mayor Duterte said as she revealed that one of the fatalities in the Friday carnage – Kristia Gaile Bisnon – was her private nurse. “We want to talk to him and find out who ordered the bombing and why it was carried out. We want to know who his cohorts are, their group, and their other terror plans.”

The lady mayor said the business sector in Davao City helped her raise P1 million of the total amount as its counterpart, while the city government will provide the other P1 million.

“The business sector in Davao pledged to help run after the perpetrators because the bomb explosion also threatened their businesses,” she said.

It is not yet clear where will the city government source its counterpart fund for the bounty.

Mayor Duterte said  Bisnon  served as her private nurse when she once experienced complications in her pregnancy in the past.

Bisnon was one of the three fatalities at the SPMC, aside from mother and son Melanie and Daniel Larida, who were both patients at the government hospital.

The mayor announced the bounty Monday morning after she visited the wake of 27-year-old Bisnon, whose remains were taken to Tacurong City.

“She was very dedicated to her work as a nurse,” she said. “Even when there was nothing to do, she would choose to stay awake and watch over me. She knew my needs, and always made sure that everything was taken care of. I did not need to tell her what to do.”

Mayor Duterte, who spoke with the mother of Bisnon during her visit, said she was shocked upon learning that Kristia was among the victims.

Last Saturday, Mayor Duterte led a memorial for the victims.

“I am sorry for what happened,” she said, adding that the people of Davao will not be terrorized by the bombing.

“We will not be terrorized by this heinous crime and I call on all Dabawenyos to unite and let us help each other rise from this senseless incident,” she said.

She said the real intent of the bomb explosion was to kill many people.

“It was meant to kill,” she said. “It was an explosive. It was clearly an act of terrorism.”

SECURITY CHIEFS’ RELIEF SOUGHT

Mayor Duterte also sought the relief Davao City Police Office director Michael John Dubria and Task Force Davao commander Col. Henry Robinson.

“I took what happened personally and I feel that there will be strained working relationships between the city government, police, and the Task Force Davao if these officials continue,” Duterte said. “I want new people on board and I want new ideas for Davao City.”

Mayor Duterte likewise announced the appointment of Col. Benny de Leon as the new chief of the Public Safety and Security Command Center, which also houses the Emergency Central 911.
