Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari said on Tuesday that his country has made "remarkable progress" in fighting the extremist group Boko Haram, which staged terrorist attacks in the northeastern part of the West African country.
Buhari, speaking at the General Debate of the UN General Assembly, said, "Nigeria has made remarkable progress in our resolve to defeat Boko Haram whose capacity to launch orchestrated attacks as a formed group has been severely degraded."
"In the last few months, their operations have been limited to sporadic use of improvised explosive devices against soft targets, " said the president.
"Ngieria has continued to combat terrorism based on the established rules of engagement and in conformity with international best practices," he said.
Boko Haram uses Nigeria's northeast region as its stronghold and has been frequently raided in the past six years.
Over the past months, the Nigerian government has launched several military operations to eliminate the terrorist threat. Enditem
