Int'l Cooperation Remains At Core Of Sustainable Development: Kenya Deputy President

 September 22nd, 2016  |  09:02 AM  |   625 views

UNITED NATIONS

International cooperation remains at the core of implementing sustainable development, said William Ruto, deputy president of Keny, during the high-level debate of UN General Assembly on Wednesday.

"The Cold War is now behind us, paving the way for greater opportunities for global synergy," said Ruto.

Ruto said the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development ushered in a new era of international development cooperation and development.

"The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) reflect our ambition and hope for a better future for ourselves and for our children," he said.

"We believe that international cooperation will remain at the core of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda," Ruto said.

Kenya expects that the implementation of the SDGs will result in transformed societies, improved environmental and climatic conditions, and global sustained economic growth, the official said.

Even amongst the younger nations like Kenya, technological invention, such as MPESA (a mobile phone-based money transfer, financing and microfinancing service), are leapfrogging us into the future, promising greater prosperity and integration, he added.

Over 140 world leaders are gathering in New York to attend this year's general debate which runs through Sept. 26. This year's theme for the General Assembly is "The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): A Universal Push to Transform our World."  Enditem
