UNITED NATIONS

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif vowed Wednesday to defeat terrorism in order to achieve its economic development goals.

Pakistan has been the principal victim of terrorism including that was supported, sponsored, and financed from abroad, Sharif said during the high-level debate of UN General Assembly.

"We will not allow externally sponsored terrorism and threats of destabilization to cause turbulence in Pakistan," he added.

Sharif said terrorism is now a global phenomenon, which must be addressed comprehensively and in all its forms. Pakistan has reinforced its resolve to eliminate the source of terrorism.

"Our priority of economic development requires internal peace and stability," Sharif said.

Meanwhile, Sharif said Pakistan agreed the implementation of the Sustainable Development Agenda should be the focus of this session and the country has fully integrated the 2030 Development Agenda into its own economic and social strategy.

Over 140 world leaders are gathering in New York to attend this year's general debate which runs through Sept. 26. This year's theme for the General Assembly is "The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): A Universal Push to Transform our World."  Enditem
