KIGALI, REPUBLIK RWANDA
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam arrived in Kigali, Republic of Rwanda to attend the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, CHOGM which will be held on 24th and 25th June 2022. Accompanying His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen. Also present to greet His Majesty at Kigali International Airport were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Erywan bin Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Haji Mohd. Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs, and His Excellency Retired First Admiral Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Norazmi bin Pengiran Haji Muhammad, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to the United Kingdom and Eire.
Present to welcome His Majesty was The Honourable Dr. Vincent Biruta, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Rwanda. Whilst in Kigali, His Majesty is also expected to attend the Official Welcome Reception and State Dinner which will be hosted by His Excellency Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda; and a dinner which will be hosted by His Royal Highness Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales.
Brunei Darussalam became the 49th member of the Commonwealth when it regained independence on 1st January 1984. Since then, the country has participated in several CHOGM meetings which presented a useful platform for discussing international issues and promoting bilateral relations, including in the fields of education, finance, health, law, women and youth. In addition, Brunei Darussalam has also gained vast benefits from the assistance and training provided by the Commonwealth in areas of trade, industry and human resource development.
