The COVID-19 cases reported in Brunei Darussalam does not show much difference from the previous week, whereas the average daily rate of cases was 210 cases per day last week, compared to 215 cases per day in the previous week. 37,733 ART results were uploaded to the BruHealth app within one week of which 3.9 percent were positive ART results. Meanwhile, there are no cases in Categories 4 and 5. This was stated by Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health at a media conference on the latest COVID-19 situation yesterday afternoon at Dewan Al-Afiah, Ministry of Health.

As of 25th September 2022, the rate of COVID-19 vaccination coverage in Brunei Darussalam remains at a high level with 78 point 4 percent of all citizens and residents of the country having received the third dose of the vaccine and 10.4 percent receiving the fourth dose. 269 new cases have been reported, of which 268 are the result of ARTs and 1 case out of 81 RT-PCR lab tests conducted. The Ministry of Health also informs the public that the Brunei Darussalam Medicines Control Authority, BDMCA has approved the Emergency Use Authorization, EUA for the use of the Moderna Spikevax Bivalent Original/Omicron for adults in the country. The approval is based on the clinical data for the bivalent vaccine that has been presented and is also following the guidelines approved from the drug control authorities from countries such as United Kingdom, Australia, European Union, Canada and Singapore. Moderna Spikevax Bivalent Original/Omicron is a bivalent next generation vaccine that also contains elements that target the Omicron variant, other than the original variant.

The vaccine is expected to arrive in the country by the end of the year. Meanwhile, since there has been a slight increase in the trend of cases of influenza-like illness, ILI in the country over the past two weeks, the public is reminded to continue to practice preventive and control measures for respiratory infections, especially for anyone who shows signs of infection. The measures include isolating oneself from others throughout the period of experiencing symptoms, wearing a face mask and washing hands frequently with soap and water or using disinfectant liquid. The control measures for this respiratory infection are similar as the control measures for the COVID-19. The public are hoped to cooperate and continue to upload their respective ART results, whether positive or negative to the BruHealth app.
