The Labour Department has announced that the implementation of the new process for acquiring a Foreign Worker Licence will be implemented in stages.
The department yesterday said that the first stage will be only for new companies that have never acquired a Labour Licence before October 1.
Any application for additional, renewal or transfer of foreign workers specifically for the Foreign Worker Licence will only be implemented in 2017.
The new system of application for new Foreign Worker Licence was implemented on October 1.
The implementation of the new application for Additional Foreign Worker Licence will be on January 1, 2017 while the Renewal of Foreign Worker License is set to be implemented on April 1, 2017.
Companies that have acquired a Labour Licence or have applied for a Labour Licence (application still pending) before October 1, may still continue to apply for BUR 500 (Work Pass Recommendation).
The department also said that the issuance of the new Foreign Worker Licence will take into account a number of factors including supporting documents from relevant government agencies according to relevant sectors.
Other factors include the number of local workers, which can be indicated through the Employees Trust Fund's (TAP) e-Amanah documents and can be printed by employers themselves from TAP's website; local to foreign worker ratio, which is applicable for selected sectors only; and other government on-going policies that will provide opportunities for local jobseekers to acquire jobs.
