Local Man Slapped With Hefty Fine for Possession of Smuggled Cigarettes

A local man has been slapped with a hefty fine of $28,000 for possessing smuggled cigarettes. He will have to serve 18 months in jail if he fails to settle it.
Mohammad Hisharn bin Awang Mustaman pleaded guilty before Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman to three charges of illegally keeping 66 cartons of cigarettes at a house in STKRJ Buick Sibanging, Kampong Sungai Buloh, at 10.10am on September 1, 2012 and one carton of cigarettes each in two cars.
The defendant could not produce tiny permit for the import of the cigarettes.
