A Malaysian was fined over $12,000 or 12 months imprisonment by the Kuala Belait Magistrate's Court for violating the Excise Order 2006.

20-year old Chung Ka Chai was arrested on 13th June by the enforcement division of the Royal Customs and Excise Department at the Sungai Tujuh Checkpoint for possessing 16 cartons of cigarettes of various brands without a valid permit. All contraband were confiscated to be handed over to the government.
