A man of permanent residence was sentenced by the Kuala Belait Magistrate's Court on two charges under Section 146 'D' of the Excise Order 2006.

 

33-year old, Wong Yeng Yiing was arrested by the Law Enforcement Division, Royal Customs and Excise Department, Belait Branch at a house in Kampung Pandan National Housing Scheme, Kuala Belait. The defendant pleaded guilty and was fined $217,000 or 22 months imprisonment for the first charge for possessing 268 cartons and 54 packets of various brands of cigarettes. For the second charge, a fine of $30,000 or 14 months imprisonment for possessing 96 cartons and 96 cans of alcoholic drinks of various types with a total fine of $247,000 or 36 months imprisonment in default if fails to pay the fine. All items involved were seized to be handed over to the Government for destroyed.
