BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

 

​The Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court sentenced a Malaysian man to 37 months in prison for failing to pay a fine amounting to $211,610 for the offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Chapter 131 and the Excise Order, 2006.

 

On the 2nd of August 2023, Eric Wong See Heng, 25 years old, has pleaded guilty to corruptly offering gratification of $1,000 or $2,000 to a Narcotics Officer to refrain from taking any action for the discovery of contraband items namely 266 pieces of vape and vape items in his car at Sungai Tujoh Control Post on the 27th of July 2023. The Defendant is a freelance runner delivering vape and vape related items from Miri, Sarawak, to Brunei Darussalam. He was later handed over to the Royal Customs and Excise Department for investigation into attempted smuggling of prohibited goods. Based on the investigation, the amount of excise duty attempted to be avoided is $21,161.
