BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Magistrate's Court reserved the sentencing of a 23-year-old local man who pleaded guilty to theft yesterday, to be held on November 7, 2016.

Awangku Abdul Malek bin Pengiran Idrus stole $100 from a residence at ICampong Sungai Hanching between 7pm and 8pm on October 3, 2016.

He is facing a penalty of a maximum imprisonment of seven years with fine.

DPP Aiman Zakaria informed Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman that the defendant rode home with another person driving a car when they decided to stop at the area of Mamih Restaurant's building.

With theft in mind, the defendant went to the first floor of the building and entered a staff house of the restaurant and seeing that nobody was around, he proceeded to enter a bedroom.

The defendant found a bag in which he took the $100 and left the building with the other person.

The defendant gave $20 to the other person and another $10 to fill up his car.

The occupants of the staff house realised the missing $100 and lodged a police report which led to the defendant's arrest.
