His Majesty The Sultan And Yang Di-Pertuan Of Brunei Darussalam To Attend The Asean-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam will attend the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit which will be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on 20th October 2023.

 

The ASEAN–GCC Summit, to be co-chaired by the Republic of Indonesia as the Chair of ASEAN in 2023, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will gather ASEAN and GCC Heads of State and Government for the first time since ASEAN-GCC relations were formally established in 1990. The ASEAN-GCC Joint Vision was adopted at the first ASEAN-GCC Ministerial Meeting in June 2009 in Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain, to explore areas for cooperation between the two parties. Following the Ministerial Meeting, ASEAN and GCC finalised the ASEAN-GCC

 

Two-Year Action Plan (2010-2012), where cooperation have encompassed various areas such as trade, economic cooperation and development, as well as culture, education and information.

 

The Summit is expected to discuss ways to further strengthen ASEAN–GCC relations and advance collaboration including on issues of mutual interest such as digital economy and climate change.
