Bleeding for a Good Cause at KUPU SB

 April 14th, 2016  |  05:08 AM  |   1562 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

As part of the effort in increasing blood supplies, a blood donation campaign was held yesterday at the Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB).

In the morning, the blood donation campaign was held for the Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC) while in the afternoon the campaign was for Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital Blood Donation Centre.

In an interview, Dr. Haji Adanan bin Haji Besar, Acting Ra'es of KUPU SB, explained the health campaign organised by KUPU SB is vital so that academicians and staff have the knowledge to gain information and knowledge not only on non-communicable diseases but also have the opportunity to get a health check.

"We want to make sure our academicians and staff are healthy so that they could provide efficient and effective work."

Aside from that, he added, practising a healthy lifestyle would enable them to make 'ibadah' to Allah the Almighty.

Meanwhile in a dialogue with Romeo Tabious, a staff nurse from JPMC, he said their blood centre managed to collect at least 200 pints of blood per month.

Most of the blood was derived from blood donation campaigns as well as from donors who come voluntarily to JPMC to donate their blood.

"Most of our blood (use) is centred at The Brunei Cancer Centre (TBCC), Neurostroke, Gleneagles, heart surgery and maternity. On a daily basis we receive at least a minimum of 10 pints of blood request from these units as well as from other medical cases that need blood supply."

There were also times when the blood supplies could not accommodate requests especially on extreme emergency cases, when JPMC has to ask for blood supply from the RIPAS Hospital Blood Donation Centre.

The campaign also featured health exhibitions displayed by the Health Promotion Centre focussing on diet, the effects of tobacco, practising healthy living and many more.
