​A foreigner and a permanent resident were brought before the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court, 28th September 2024, on 4 Charges under Section 146(1)(d) of the Excise Order 2006 which is in possession of customs contrabands without permission and valid permit.

 

43-year-old Malaysian, YEE YONG PIN was found guilty on 2 charges for possessing 90 cartons, 2 packets and 20 sticks of cigarettes of various brands as well as 1,440 cans of alcoholic drinks of various brands.

 

For the FIRST Charge, a fine of BND90,300.00 or 18 months imprisonment in default. For the SECOND charge, the offender was fined BND22,584.00 or 13 months imprisonment in default.

 

Meanwhile, JONG YIT LIAN, a permanent resident aged 45, was found guilty on 2 charges for possessing 75 cartons of cigarettes of various brands and 36 bottles and 1440 cans of alcoholic drinks of various brands.

 

For the FIRST charge, a fine of BND75,000.00 or 17 months imprisonment in default. For the SECOND charge, he was fined BND28,440.00 or 14 months imprisonment in default.

 

All contrabands involved were confiscated to be destroyed and two vehicles and three units of mobile phones were confiscated for further action.
