Three locals were brought before the Kuala Belait Magistrate's Court for offences under the Excise Order 2006.

 

MOHAMMAD NORIZZUMAN KHAN BIN DIRMAN, aged 21, was found guilty of possessing 16 cartons, 3 packets and 19 sticks of cigarettes of various brands without a valid permit. He was arrested by Customs officers, Belait Branch Operations Unit at the parking area of Kedai Lumut in Kuala Belait on 8th August 2024. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine of $13,500 or 13 months imprisonment in default.

 

 

In another case, DIDI NUR NABILAH BINTI MUHAMMAD KANCHANG, 44, was found guilty for possessing 44 vape pod units, 1 vape mod unit and 23 bottles of vape juice of various brands. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine of $38,500 or 14 months imprisonment in default.

 

While MAZLAN BIN HAJI MOHD YASSIN, 47 years old, was found to have abetted, assisted and accompanied Didi Nur Nabilah in the sale and purchase of vape. The accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a fine of $38,500 or 14 months imprisonment in default.

 

They were arrested by Kuala Belait customs officers at a house in the Landless Indigenous Citizens' Housing Scheme of Kampung Mumong 'A' area on 6th April 2024. All contrabands were confiscated to be destroyed.
