Local Trade Mission Delegates Depart for Oman

 December 3rd, 2016  |  10:15 AM  |   877 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Some 25 Bruneian companies have joined an official delegation led by the Energy and Industry Department at the Prime Minister's Office (EIDPMO) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT) of Brunei Darussalam for a Trade Mission to the Sultanate of Oman.

The delegates left for Muscat, Oman yesterday, and a Doa Selamat recitation was held at the Brunei International Airport before their departure to bless the trip.

According to a press release from EIDPMO, this trade mission is being carried out in conjunction with the 2nd Brunei-Oman Joint Energy and Industry Seminar, an event jointly organised by EIDPMO and the Ministry of Oil and Gas, the Sultanate of Oman.

The seminar will take place at the Grand Hyatt in Muscat until December 6, 2016 with the theme 'Strengthening Industrial Cooperation for Economic Growth and Development'.

The Bruneian companies joining the mission will represent a variety of sectors and business activities, including oil and gas, food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, ICT, Muslimah fashion, as well as education and business services.

Out of the 25 companies joining the delegation, eight micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) qualified for government sponsorship, which covers accommodation, return flight tickets and the printing of promotional materials.

The sponsorship is provided in order to support the growth of local MSMEs that have potential to expand their businesses overseas. Through such exposure, MSMEs are hoped to grow by seeking investments, conducting market research as well as establishing partnerships and business networks.

The press release went on to share that the 2nd Brunei-Oman Joint Energy and Industry Seminar will discuss SME Development, Renewable Energy Capabilities, Ease of Doing Business as well as other topics to be conducted between the two countries' relevant agencies.

Other scheduled activities also include workshops on trade and investment activities business matching and site visits to oil refinery plants, major ports, food processing units and industrial sites.

Among the objectives of this seminar and trade mission is to foster closer relations between the two nations by exploring more areas of cooperation in energy and industry.

It is hoped that this platform will allow for exchanges of information and best practices in developing the energy and industry sector of both countries.

This year's Brunei-Oman Joint Energy and Industry Seminar is the second seminar jointly initiated between the EIDPMO and Oman's Ministry of Oil arid Gas.

The first joint seminar was held in Brunei back in November 2014, with a delegation of over 20 Omanis officials and companies headed by Salim Nasser Al Aufi, the Under Secretary of Oman's Ministry of Oil and Gas taking part.
