After missing the taping of his May 19 episode of his late night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel announced that his daughter Katie Kimmel welcomed her first baby with husband Will Logsdon.
Jimmy Kimmel has a new title on his resume: grandfather.
After the late night talk show host missed the May 19 taping of his show, he told the audience the following evening that he had the sweetest excuse as his daughter Katie Kimmel and her husband Will Logsdon welcomed their first baby together.
“We were supposed to have a show last night but we didn’t because my daughter had a baby last night,” Jimmy explained to the audience during the May 20 episode. “My oldest daughter, she’s 83 years old, her name is Katie. Katie and her husband Will had a baby girl right at the time we shot our show last night.”
And while Jimmy—who shares Katie, 33, along with son Kevin, 31, with ex Gina Maddy, as well as kids Jane, 10, and Billy, 8, with wife Molly McNearney—expressed how important it was to be there for Katie.
“I decided to be there instead of here,” he explained. “The baby is very healthy. They gave her a very cute name.”
Jimmy joked that his daughter and son-in-law—who tied the knot in 2021—named their first daughter “Melania Thee Stallion” after Melania Trump and Megan Thee Stallion; but he later confirmed that they named their daughter “Patti Joan.”
The 57-year-old also confirmed he wasn’t the only one supporting Katie and Will on expanding their little family.
“We had an army of family at the hospital,” he explained. “It was bigger than Coachella.”
Jimmy also couldn’t contain his excitement over becoming a grandfather, before going on to joke just how little responsibilities he will have for the little one. After all, Jimmy went on to list eccentric things he learned from his own grandfathers, including painting the inside of a microwave and bowling overhand.
As he quipped, “I have to think of something weird to teach my grandkids.”
