Bangladeshi High Commissioner Hosted Open House to Mark Bengali New Year

High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Brunei Darussalam, H. E. Mohammed Abdul Hye hosted an open house gathering yesterday to celebrate the Bengali New Year with mission heads and distinguished guests.

 

Held at the residence of the high commissioner, the event served a scrumptious spread of traditional dishes popular in Bangladesh, as well as number of savoury dishes, sweets and desserts.

 

The high commissioner noted that the Bengali New Year is a. celebration of great significance like any other festivals in the region.

 

"The Bengali New Year is celebrated every April 14. The day is marked by visiting relatives, friends and neighbours. People prepare special dishes for their guests.

 

"There are many religious groups living in Bangladesh. Each group has its own festival, but this is the one festival that everyone can join in together," he said, adding that "it is a celebration that unites the society of Bangladesh."

 

The High Commission of Bangladesh will hold a special fair for members of the Bangladeshi community in Brunei on a later date'.
