Bandar Seri Begawan

In an effort to further upgrade the performance of cooperatives, the Government will continue to focus on improving their management, and strengthening cooperatives that are competitive at the international level by introducing a Training Code and Financial Health Clinic as well as a training programme on business skill starting in March.

The Permanent Secretary for Industry at the Prime Minister's Office, was speaking at the Opening Ceremony of a new Block of Koprasi Tanjong Maya, KOPERTAMA, dengan Tanggongan Berhad.

Haji Mohammad Azmi bin Haji Mohamad Hanifah also expressed the hope that KO-PERTAMA as well as other cooperatives in the country could further diversify their cooperative activity in contributing towards the country's socio-economy. This, he added, could be achieved especially by venturing into large-scale business fields, being more competitive and progressive as well as able to penetrate the export markets at the regional and international levels.

Haji Mohamad Azmi hoped that along with such an achievement, the cooperative could also provide job opportunities especially for local citizens. He also hoped that cooperatives would be able to rent out business premises or spaces to local companies that are actively managed by local entrepreneurs.

The opening of this new building marks KO-PERTAMA Cooperative's another success in giving added value towards achieving its objective with good cooperative management after 55 years of existence. This new building, was built at a cost of 287 thousand dollars next to the old building in Kampong Tanjong Maya Tutong. Construction of the two-storey building which began at the end of 2015 was completed last October. Also, present at the opening ceremony was Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Wahab bin Apong, a Member of the Legislative Council, as Penghulu of Mukim Tanjong Maya.
