Bandar Seri Begawan

Touching on the construction and maintenance of mosques, the Minister of Religious Affairs explained that the Mosque Construction Fund has received an encouraging response from the public. Up until last February, Yang Berhormat said that the fund's collection has reached over 4 million dollars.

Yang Berhormat said that 4.6 million dollars has been collected up until late February, and the first project that will make use of the Mosque Construction Fund is the construction of the Tanjong Bunut Mosque with an allocation of 3.56 million dollars. Currently, the average monthly collection of funds is around 200 thousand dollars, which comes from collection boxes in mosques as well as donations by civil servants through salary deductions. Yang Berhormat said a new initiative in terms of donation by civil servants to the fund is being introduced, which will allow them to donate 2 dollars of their salaries every month. However, Yang Berhormat said that this suggestion of monthly salary deduction will not be mandatory, but will be based on the individual's generosity.
