The achievements of Arabic schools in the academic field are praise-worthy. However, proficiency in Arabic still requires improvement as well as serious attention. This is very true since the importance and benefits of the Arabic language are mentioned in Al-Quran.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs underscored this in a speech at the opening of the Arabic Language Education Seminar yesterday.

The Minister's speech was read by Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs. The speech said teachers and students should be proficient in either spoken or written Arabic.  Some teachers find it difficult to fully use Arabic in the teaching and learning process or in conducting activities related to spreading Arabic at school. With strong desire and continuous efforts, Yang Berhormat Pehin believed that difficult things could easily become reality.

The 3-day seminar carries the theme, "Bi'ah Al-Lughah Arabiah Bil Madrasah or "Arabic in the School Environment-the Effective Learning Strategy." 170 participants from the Islamic Studies Department and teachers of Arabic from Arabic and religious schools are attending the session. Several working papers by local and foreign speakers are presented during the seminar.
