Signing Of Brunei Energy Industry Integrity Pact

All leading oil and gas companies are reminded that they are accountable for their staffs that are on the front line with contractors and how they relate with their contractors and partners. The Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister's Office said the practice of unethical bid rigging in tenders cannot be defended and unacceptable - for it destroys the country's reputation. He also urged all Contract Holders not to abuse their responsibility and position because they are not only accountable to their company but also to Brunei Darussalam as well as in maintaining Business Integrity. Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamanteri Retired Colonel Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar made the reminder at the Signing of the Brunei Energy Industry Integrity Pact.
Earlier, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid, the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office and Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, in his opening remarks, said corruption does not happen everywhere. But it concentrates in pockets in particular industries, societies and crimes of opportunity. The Permanent Secretary also said that in the business sector, mainly the oil and gas industry, construction, finance services, cooperatives and other industry comes out of top 5 most frequent corruption complain. And out of the 5 industries, the oil and gas industry comes out as top.
The Energy Industry Business Integrity Pact involves major Oil and Gas Operators such as the Brunei Shell Petroleum, Brunei LNG, BSM and Brunei Gas Carriers. They pledged and committed to the Summarized Principles such as prohibition of bribery and facilitation payments in Business activities; Code of Conduct in place and principles disseminated to staff and contractors; Consistent consequence management for violations of code and principles; and Visible training programs and communication in place. Also present at the function were Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Paduka Hajah Hayati binti Pehin Orang Kaya Shahbandar Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Salleh, Attorney General; and Mr Daniel Marcelo Elustondo, Ethics and Compliance Manager of the Brunei Shell Petroleum and the Chairman of the Brunei Energy Industry Integrity Working Group.
