Al Idrus Junior Secured Fourth Victory After Defeating Setia Perdana

BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA

Al Idrus Junior registered their fourth consecutive win in the Brunei DST Premier League after beating promotion hopefuls Setia Perdana 2-0 at the Berakas Sports Complex yesterday.

The newly promoted club who gained entry to the second tier through the Brunei-Muara District League have been a surprise package this season even though they have been tipped to secure promotion at the first attempt.

Last month, Setia Perdana head coach Awang Haji Lalim bin Haji Piut, who was on the opposite side of the dugout, tipped Al Idrus Junior to win promotion to the country's top flight in the Brunei DST Super League despite making their debut in the current league this season.

However, despite talks of Al Idrus possibly running away with the league in the same fashion as Kota Ranger and Lun Bawang in previous years, the team's assistant manager Awangku Kanzul Shah bin Pengiran Haji Damit refused to get carried away by their excellent form.

"We will keep the momentum going and it is still early days to discuss thoughts of promotion," affirmed Awangku Kanzul Shah in a post-match interview.

Al Idrus Junior were formed during the NBT FA Cup in 2014 but have since made significant progress in last year's Brunei-Muara District League when they beat DSP United and MSN United in the final round to earn a slot in the Brunei DST Premier League.

The assistant manager has attributed the team's togetherness for a long time as one of the main reasons behind the team's recent success which sees the newcomers three points clear of nearest rival Tabuan Under-17.

Having seen his side storming to the top of the Brunei DST Premier League with 12 points, Awangku Kanzul Shah identified Ali Mustafa's Tabuan Under-17 as their biggest threat towards securing promotion.

Al Idrus Junior took the lead in the 41st minute after Awang Muhd Wafiq Nazri Othman nodded in Awang Abdul Malik Yunus fine cross before sealing all three points in the 53rd minute with substitute Awang Adie Arsham Muhd Salleh slotting home an Awang Ahmad Afif As'ad Haji Ali's cross.

Last season Brunei DST Premier League top scorer Awang Haji Rahimni Haji Pundut saw his tame shot easily saved by Al Idrus goalkeeper Pengiran Muhd Nur Nizam Pengiran Ismail in a one-on-one situation.
