KUCHING, SARAWAK
Beruang Blazer will be representing the country in the Yuwang EBL Basketball League, a semi-professional basketball league, which is slated to start on August 19.
Their first-time participation was confirmed following a signing ceremony in Kuching yesterday.
Representing the team was Ken Han, team manager of Beruang Blazers.
Other confirmed teams are Kuching Lord Tiger, Kota Kinabalu Eagles and Labuan Wasps.
Organised by EBL Sports Event Sendirian Berhad (EBL) and inspired by the NBA, the league is aimed at building a brand name by promoting the sport in East Malaysia.
Kuching is scheduled to host the first-leg of the competition, followed by Labuan, Kota Kinabalu and Brunei.
The dates have yet to be fixed. Four rounds of round-robin will be played first.
The semi-final round will have the first seed against the third seed and second seed versus fourth seed.
Both semi-final and final rounds will have a best of three series.
According to Ken Han, "The intention to participate in this league is to inspire the current youth to play basketball and help elevate the game for Bruneians."
The players of the team are yet to be decided. A tryout will be conducted.
