MUANG

A 27-year-old cart man at the Tesco Lotus store in Muang district has received praise and a reward after returning a customer's bag that was found later to contain 2 million baht in gold, cash and valuables.

Nathaphol Phromthongkaew, a part-time worker at the store, found a black bag hanging from a shopping cart at the store on Friday afternoon. He took it to the customer service staff who then looked for its owner.

The customer later returned to the store and retrieved the bag, which contained cash, six 10-baht-weight (152-gramme) gold bars worth roughly 200,000 baht each, and other valuables.

Store managers decided to make Mr Nathaphol a permanent staff member, presented him with a special certificate and asked the provincial governor to do the same. They also gave him a cash reward in addition to the 20,000 baht from the bag's owner.

Mr Nathaphol said he was working while studying law at Ramkhamhaeng University, and that he dreamed of becoming a police officer.
