DPMM FC suffered back-to-back home defeats in the S League this season after falling to a 2-1 loss at the hands of Geylang International FC at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium last night.
The latest setback - fourth in the league this term - put the holders nine points adrift from league leaders Albirex Niigata (S) with the same number of games played.
The hosts were the brighter of the two sides with Paulo Sergio shot reaching the arms of the visiting goalkeeper Syazwan Bohari.
Casual defending from the visitors nearly gifted Brazilian Rafael Ramazotti a chance on the plate but Shariff Samat briefly recovered. The towering striker had his effort saved by Syazwan shortly after finding the ball from the edge of the box.
The visitors seized on DPMM FC's losing possession in their own half as the dangerous Sahil Suhaimi hoisted the ball for Shawal Anuar who chipped over the bar after spotting goalkeeper Wardun Yussof off his line.
Azwan Ali burst forward with interest nipping past defenders but could not find sufficient power to trouble Syazwan.
Geylang took the lead after Shawal was given time and space to evade the challenges before rifling home with aplomb past Wardun.
The hosts was inches away from drawing level after Paulo Sergio's header brushed against the post after a fine cross from Azwan Ali.
The attacking quartet which DPMM FC head coach Steve Kean often refer to combined and nearly produced a fine team goal after a fine passage of play.
Paulo Sergio nipped past a couple of players and played a one-two to Azwan Ali before Ramazotti joined in the act on the box. Somehow, the Geylang defence was completely deceived after pushing up and with Sergio beating the offside trap, he was all alone with Syazwan but could not get pass the goalkeeper.
The hosts found the equaliser after Rafael Ramazotti coolly dispatched the penalty for his sixth of the campaign after Geylang captain Faritz Hameed had hacked down Sergio.
The introduction of Hendra Azam to the side invited creativity to the side but Ramazotti saw his header ended wide as DPMM FC went in search of the winner.
Stanely Ng sent a teasing ball into the box for fellow substitute Amy Recha who was denied by Wardun from close range.
However, the hosts were left to rue for their missed chances as Faritz made amends after executing the winner thanks to the help of a deflection off a DPMM FC's player.
