Kean Worries as DPMM FC Lose 2 Games in a Row

 May 2nd, 2016  |  05:17 AM  |   1261 views

BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA

DPMM FC head coach Steve Kean has lamented his charges' inability to convert chances after seeing his side dropped vital points for the second consecutive home match in the 2-1 defeat by Geylang International FC on Saturday.

Kean has indicated that it was a pattern last picked up from the Albirex Niigata (S) loss where they enjoyed creating a lot of chances but failed to turn them into goals.

"We had something like eight or nine chances in the first half. It has been a pattern we've repeated tonight from the Albirex's game where we had most of the chances but found ourselves behind," said Kean in a post-match interview.

"At the moment, we are not getting the first goal and what happened then we're bringing pressure to ourselves because when you get eight to nine chances and you don't put them away there's always a spell in the game where the opposition is going to have a little bit of the game.

"I think if Geylang were honest they were quite happy with a point. They weren't really chasing the winner as it was us who were. We then conceded a late goal so we're bitterly disappointed," added Kean.

Kean stressed that his charges needs to finish off chances especially after creating at least 12 or 13 as opposed to Geylang's four or five.

In the wake of the back-to-back defeats this season, the head coach will split the team into two groups in training explaining that the attackers would be summoned to do a lot of repetitions in finishing from all different angles and situations while it is back to basics for the defenders.

"The back four has to make sure that we produce a clean sheet to give us the platform to get points again," Kean said.

DPMM FC striker Rafael Ramazottj has netted six goals this campaign but the problem still lies on getting the goals with opponents capitalising on lack of finishing with late goals.

Kean has also highlighted the uncertainty at defence which also convinced the head coach to split the groups in training starting with their first preparations ahead of the Warriors match.

"We've missed two many chances. There's times where we were in front of goal and we don't ask enough questions of the goalkeeper. It sounds silly we're not strong enough in the corners.

"We're in goal-scoring positions but we're not scoring enough. We're creating enough where the midfield is giving good service to the front and the midfield giving good protection to the back unit but we're misfiring at the front.

"At the moment, we always look though sometime in the game we look a bit shaky in .the back and we look a bit nervous. We look like we're going to concede," he said.

Meanwhile, Kean's opposite number Geylang International FC head coach Hasrin Jailani admitted that they had to work hard to get the result adding that DPMM FC were a tough team.

"It was a very hard win for us. It was not easy to come to Brunei and play against a good team," said Jailani.

"They came at us in the first half for the first 15-20 minutes. The plan was to make sure that we were ready and to be able to hold them in terms of our defensive organisation.

"I think our players did well where we managed to score one in the first half. Once they scored in the second half, the game started to be more exciting," he said.
