Charity Bazaar to Collect Funds

Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah binti His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah this morning launched the Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam and Embassy of Kuwait Charity Bazaar. The one-day Charity Bazaar was aimed to collect funds to finance programmes to educate, train and assist services, care and rehabilitation of the people with special needs at the centre. The function took place at the Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam's New Building at Kampung Bengkurong.
The arrival of Her Royal Highness was greeted by Pengiran Datin Hajah Noraini binti Pengiran Dipa Negara Laila Diraja Pengiran Haji Abdul Momin, Executive Trustee of Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam; Awang Haji Ahmad bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Trustee for Policy and Planning of Pusat Ehsan; and His Excellency Doctor Fahad Mashary Al-Thafiri, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kuwait to Brunei Darussalam, as the Co-Chairpersons of the function. Also welcoming Her Royal Highness was Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Alimin bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Senior Trustee of Pusat Ehsan.
The function began with a reading of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat by Awang Sanip bin Haji Tarip, Religious Teacher at Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajah Maryam. In his welcoming speech, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kuwait to the country, among other matters touched on the similar characteristics between Kuwait and Brunei Darussalam. This includes the involvement of the two countries in contributing humanitarian aid and efforts to alleviate the impact of natural disasters as well as help those in need.
Her Royal Highness launched the Charity Bazaar. At the function, Her Royal Highness received contributions amounting to more than 40 thousand dollars from sponsors. The Embassy of Kuwait to the country contributed 5 thousand dollars; Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam contributed more than 6 thousand dollars; 'Mar'azmala Petrol Station and Trading' and Build Mix Trading each contributed 3 thousand dollars; Honey Carsmart - 2 thousand 5 hundred dollars; IBA Petrol Station Sendirian Berhad and Borneo Air Conditioning and Engineering contributed one thousand dollars respectively.
Her Royal Highness received a pasambah from the Embassy of Kuwait to the country. Various activities were held at the Charity Bazaar, among them an ablution clinic, financial clinic and cooking demonstration. The Charity Bazaar was also joined by number embassies in the country. According to the Embassy of Kuwait, the charitable activity was one of the public diplomatic efforts as a diplomatic community who are caring towards the people with special needs.
Among those attending the function were Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doktor Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, Minister of Health; Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Education and diplomatic envoys of friendly nations to the country.
In its efforts to achieve a status as a Centre of Excellence in special education and rehabilitation in the country's community, the centre sets three main principles in order to achieve that objective, including cooperation among various agencies aside from efforts to enhance capabilities by providing various rehabilitation, education, training and skill development programmes for people with special needs in the country.
