TAWAU: The Tawau municipality was selected to be the first in the state for a pilot landscape development program costing RM10 million that will start in August.

Tawau Municipal Council (TMC) president Alijus @ Mohd Ali Hj. Sipil said apart from Tawau, other cities that had been selected under the Landscape Development Program included Bintulu in Sarawak, Alor Setar (Kedah), Batu Pahat (Johor) and Pekan (Pahang).

A public participation session for the proposed development of the Tawau municipal landscape was held at TMC Conference for the purpose of listening to a briefing on the Tawau Municipal Landscape Development by the National Landscape Department, yesterday.

He said with the implementation of the project, there would be physical changes for Tawau involving urban landscape development which would cover about 50 acres.

Among the areas involved in the development are Confrontation Event Monuments, Municipal Field, Dunlop Road, Tanjung Market, Masjid Al-Kauthar roundabout and Traulsen Coastal.

Alijus said the municipal would be more optimistic to a greener urban landscape, and better pedestrian and bicycle lanes to facilitate the citizens of Tawau.

“I hope the implementation of this development project will allow the installation of brighter lightings that will allow Tawau community do healthy activities at night,” he said.

He said with the landscape development, he hoped the people of Tawau would together maintain and conserve the facilities provided by the government without doing any damage which would be very detrimental to all parties.

“I also hope that the people of Tawau can take the opportunity to see the details of the new landscape design for Bandar Tawau and provide feedback on the designs available. The design exhibition sessions will be held on May 5 and 6 at the TMC building foyer.

“Attendance of Tawau residents are welcome to jointly realize this landscape development project,” he said.
