Restaurants that provide non-halal food for non-Muslims, and vendors that do not meet requirements and guidelines of the Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order (2005) comprising Food Vendors, Permanent Stalls and Short-Term Stalls, are two business categories that have been given the approval to be exempt from the Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order (2017). This was among the contents of the Halal Certificate and Halal Permit Application Procedure roadshow for businesses that do not meet requirements and guidelines of the halal certification, as well as changes of halal permit payment rates under the Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order (2005). The roadshow was held yesterday morning at the Multaqa Hall, Ministry of Religious Affairs.

Among those in attendance were Yang Berhormat Dayang Khairunnisa binti Awang Haji Ash'ari, Member of the Legislative Council, and Awang Haji Saharudin bin Haji Patra, the Acting Director of Syariah Affairs, Ministry of Religious Affairs. The briefing, which was delivered by Awang Ahmad Haziq bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Head of the Halal Food Control Section, Syariah Affairs Department, explained the exemption procedures.  This is to allow businesses that did not meet the requirements and guideline for halal certification to operate as normal, even though they are not qualified for the halal certificate and halal permit. The Brunei Islamic Religious Council has agreed to the payment rates of the new Halal Permit based on the processing company's category following the Department of Economic Planning and Development's industrial classification.

For the micro industry, the halal permit payment rate for each product is 5 dollars, while the small industry is charged 150 dollars for 20 products, the medium industry 300 dollars for 20 products, the macro-industry 700 dollars for 20 product, while Multinationals are charged one thousand dollars for 20 products. With the new payment rates, each halal permit will include the 3-year expiration date.  However, the new rate enforcement date will be informed at a later date after several processes have been completed.
