The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, MOU between the Survey Department and Syarikat Soartech Systems Sendirian Berhad was aimed at establishing basic cooperation and partnership between the Survey Department and Syarikat Soartech System Sendirian Berhad pertaining to aerial photo taking and geospatial data in developing areas and identified areas according to the needs of the stakeholders agency.

 

The agreement is hoped to be able to save the government's spending cost in updating the Survey Department's map and orthophoto geoportal as well as in protecting or improving the department's present Continuously Operating Reference Stations, CORS. Present to witness the signing was Dato Seri Paduka Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Acting Minister of Development. Signing on behalf of the Survey Department was Awang Haji Ali Bakar bin Haji Kasim, Surveyor General, whilst Syarikat Soartech Systems Sendirian Berhad was represented by its Managing Director and Founder, Awang Haji Adam Lesli On bin Abdullah.

 

Awang Haji Ali Bakar in his speech said the agreement between Government and Private in the form of Public, Private Partnership, PPP, among other things will include the supply of current geospatial data such as map, aerial photo, LIDAR and CORS data from the department to Syarikat Soartech System. Meanwhile, the company will provide value-added data for the public, private and stakeholder's usage. According to the Surveyor General, the Geospatial and CORS data will always be updated, precise, functional and used wisely by all stakeholders or users. It can provide opportunity for the private companies to create or produce geospatial technology product for the users need in nation development. Awang Haji Ali Bakar added, this indirectly can create job opportunities to the locals in private sector. Also present was Awang Haji Muhammad Lutfi bin Abdullah, Permanent Secretary for Administration and Finance at the Ministry of Development.
