The Transport Ministry will direct the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) to create a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to prevent a repeat of a helicopter crash in future.

“Preliminary action must be taken to study the problems faced during a helicopter crash,” said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi.

He disclosed this to reporters at the Royal Malaysian Air Force Base in Subang, here Friday night.

Ab Aziz joined relatives, friends and VIPs waiting for the arrival of the remains of the Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Datuk Noriah Kasnon who was killed in a helicopter crash in Sarawak on Thursday.

He said his ministry was also expected to issue guidelines to ensure a similar incident did not recur.

Noriah was the first victim found after the ill-fated Eurocopter AS350 aircraft carrying five other people from Betong to Kuching, disappeared Thursday afternoon.

Her remains were found in the initial search area for the ill-fated helicopter at Sungai Batang Lupar near Sebuyau, Friday afternoon.

Besides Noriah, others on board the helicopter were her husband, Asmuni Abdullah and the Member of Parliament for Kuala Kangsar, who was also the Chairman of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), Datuk Wan Mohammad Khair-il Anuar Wan Ahmad.

The ministry’s Secretary-General, Datuk Dr Sundaran Annamalai, Noriah’s bodyguard, Ahmad Sobri Harun and Filipino pilot Rudolf Rex Ragas were also on the aircraft.
