Bruneian Athlete Bagged Home Gold in 19th Asia Masters Athletics Championships 2016

Haji Zainal bin Haji Namit cemented legendary status after bagging javelin gold in the 19th Asia Masters Athletics Championships 2016 at the National Stadium of Singapore recently.
Faced with stiff competition, the senior athlete recorded a winning mark of 48.31m in his fourth attempt to secure the victory ahead of Japan's Seiji Ota with 48.01m and Malaysia's Sandhu Tarmizi with 41.40m.
His compatriot Haji Osman bin Haji Lahab bagged bronze in the 5,000m event after setting a time of 26:55.32. China's Yu Quan Sun and Mongolia's Baasan Adilbish won first and second respectively.
Brunei finished 15th overall in the classification of nations ahead of South Korea, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
India led the medal table with 75 gold medals, 69 silver and 72 bronze with China in second place with 75 gold, 57 silver and 28 bronze.
Japan settled for third place after finishing the competition with 63 gold medals, 32 silver and 26 bronze.
The medallists were greeted to a heroes' welcome by Haji Abdul Razak bin Bungsu, President of the Brunei Darussalam Veteran Athletics Association upon arrival at the Brunei International Airport.
