More than 76 million dollars have been proposed for the budget allocation of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports for the Financial Year 2018/2019. Yang Berhormat Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, while presenting the Ministry's budget allocation, also outlined 5 main focus of his ministry.
According to Yang Berhormat, the first focus for the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports for the Financial Year 2018/2019 is to involve youth in the country's development towards Wawasan Brunei 20-35, which will be shouldered by themselves in order not be left out in whatever efforts to develop the country. Youths should play the role in plan to catalyse the country's development holistically. The second focus is to develop youth leadership through two approaches. First, the exposure of youth to best leadership practises be it locally and abroad need to be continue and given new breath.
The second approach is the active involvement of youth to move forward. It is realised that such an exposure is not sufficient. As such, the Ministry will ensure that the youth will be paired with a mentor to take over and become successor in the youth associations' leadership.
The third focus is to inculcate the spirit of voluntarism. So far, the nurturing of the spirit of voluntarism among the youths has proven effective. Yang Berhormat said, more than six thousand volunteers have registered with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in 2016. With the establishment of the new National Service Programme, P-K-B-N Alumni Association, it will give added value to youth voluntarism activities. To further enhance the spirit of volunteerism and number of youths who are committed and active in voluntarily works, the Ministry encourages the establishment of a voluntary body in National level whether a council or whichever appropriate in order to move and coordinate volunteerism activity collectively.
The fourth focus is the youth's contribution to the country's economy. As an investment for the future, Yang Berhormat said the Ministry through the Youth Development Centre and the Youth Centre will continue to channel its energy for the growth and diversification of the country's economy, adding that the Ministry's main strategy is to increase the knowledge and skills in the fields of economy and entrepreneurship specifically for youths with lower qualifications. Yang Berhormat said the Ministry will increase the role of the Youth Development Centre by encouraging and providing opportunities and skills training in line with market demands. The fifth focus is on effectiveness evaluation. Yang Berhormat said in the youth sector, the Ministry will continue to evaluate policies on the effectiveness of programmes and activities conducted in terms of their resiliency and relevancy especially to youths. This includes objectively evaluating the effectiveness and success of the PKBN in producing excellent Bruneian youths.
