BERAKAS, BRUNEI-MUARA
The National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) has reminded local coaches of their responsibilities to ensure that all players instil spirits of sportsmanship, embrace loyalty, fair play and respect to teams and on duty match officials.
Coaches should be practiced in informing young children at the earliest stage of their development especially those beginning from the grassroots level.
"I am with the belief that there is a good that managers and coaches from whichever teams can explain elaborately concerning the law of the Game' to all players," said Ah Chua bin Bangau, Executive Committee Member of NFABD during the closing ceremony of the AFC 'B' Certificate Coaching Course yesterday.
"Through their understanding, players and team officials alike will understand more clearly offences which should not be carried out when a match is in progress," added Ah Chua.
With heated scenes from the Indera and Kasuka FC incident in the Brunei DST Super League still fresh in knowledge, Ah Chua advised that the head coach responsible for his team affairs especially players under his tutelage to be prepared in whatever situation.
It is only appropriate that each player must possess discipline, determination, desire and dedication in addition to having stamina, skill and strength.
Ah Chua explained the role of the head coach is not only limited to getting comprehensive understanding about football or coaching but also to possess integrity, credibility and strong mentality.
A head coach equipped with these characteristics will consequently lead to setting a fine example to players during training on and off the pitch let alone a match which involves their team.
NFABD has also sought cooperation in building the local football scene starting from the grassroots level in order to continue the development of football as a whole in the country.
Meanwhile, Bah Mamadou, a participant from Singapore, said that the course has enabled him to share his knowledge and wisdom to the young kids in his country.
The Mali-born former player, who runs an academy for Under-8, Under-10, Under-12, Under-14 and Under-18, also said that the course served as a platform to "give back to the community" after having enjoyed a long playing career in football.
A total of 10 selected coaches who hold AFC 'C' certificates took part in the course from April 25 to May 13.
The course, part of the pre-requisite to complete the programme to certify them as 'B' certificate holders, was led by Mike Wong, Technical Director of NFABD and certified AFC Instructor Stephen Ng.
