​Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr.) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs announced the matter during a meeting session with Heads of Mukim and Chiefs Village for Temburong District at the Official residence, Temburong District Officer yesterday morning.

According to Yang Berhormat, with the current status of the Brunei Darussalam Head of Mukim and Village Chief Service Scheme, collaboration of the members of Yang Berhormat, Heads of Mukim and Village Chiefs are vital to hold discussion through the Mukim and Kampung Consultative Council to identify the resident of Mukim and Kampung who are qualified as candidates who possesses quality and eligible to fill the position as Heads of Mukim and Village Chiefs subject to the requirements.

Members of Yang Berhormat, Heads of Mukim and Village Chiefs' role in this matter, added Yang Berhormat, also hoped to facilitate the government to seek for leaders from grassroot level who will lead in the level of Mukim and Kampung in line with the introduction of the scheme main objective, which are further improving, strengthening and stabilizing the credibility and quality of a leader as well as the effectiveness of Penghulu and Village Chie Institution as a core of grassroot leader by nurturing a spirit of better nation in supporting the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

At the same time, the Ministry of Home Affairs will continuously implement several strategies including dissemination through medias, roadshow on the positions and duties as well as responsibilities of Head of Mukim and Village Chief, advertising the Penghulu and Village Chief position from 1st October 2018 and updating procedure on selecting and voting the candidate.

The meeting session is part of the Minister of Home Affairs' working visit to several Mukim and Kampong in the Temburong District. The visit aims to review and to take a closer look on the development and facilities that are provided by the Government in the Temburong District specifically in further developing the economy of One Village One Product, 1K1P apart from foster relations among members of Mukim and Kampung Consultative Council as well as the Ministry of Home Affairs and Temburong District Office with leaders in the grassroot level.
