5th Annual Scientific Meeting

Cardiovascular diseases including heart attack and stroke are the second highest cause of death in the country. Speaking at the 5th Annual Scientific Meeting, the Minister of Health said most of them suffer from heart disease symptoms at a younger age. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar also explained that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of deaths worldwide. The Annual Scientific Meeting was inaugurated by Yang Berhormat yesterday morning at the Pantai Jerudong Specialist Centre.

 

Yang Berhormat also shared on the factors which causes cardiovascular disease in the country such as obesity, sedentary life styles, smoking, unbalanced diet, high blood pressure, high cholesterol dan diabetes. The annual meeting aims to raise awareness on cardiovascular disease as well as educating the local medical fraternity on the latest innovations and treatment available.

 

Cardiovascular Disease can be prevented or treated if detected earlier by taking several daily changes through practicing the healthy lifestyle. Doctor Muhammad Ezam bin Emran, Secretary of the Cardiac Society shared on the advancement in treatment of cardiovascular disease in the country.

 

Also present were Awang Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health, and Awang Haji Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Policy and Management at the Ministry of Health. This year's main scientific session included local, regional as well as international speakers. 200 local delegates comprising doctors, nurses and various allied health professionals have registered for this year's session.
