BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
The capital continues to attract the public to spend their weekend with useful activities during the year end school holidays which will end in a week's time. Bandar Seri Begawan is called the 'Garden City' because of its environment which is not only beautiful but clean and pollution free as well. Kampong Ayer in the capital is the largest water village in Southeast Asia and a major tourist attraction.
With its Bandarku Ceria programme, Bandar Seri Begawan has become more active with people gathering and spending time with their families, relatives and friends. Although the Bandarku Ceria programmes starts early, specifically from 6 to 10 in the morning, the atmosphere is lively and full of fun especially for the children. For the smooth running of the activities and the safety of visitors, main roads around the capital are closed during the event.
Many activities take place during the Bandarku Ceria Programme such as recreational cycling, trishaw rides with the family and physical exercise. Visitors can hire bicycles and trishaws at reasonable prices. The main objective of the programme is to promote the sports culture and strengthen unity through community involvement. It is also geared towards the 'healthy lifestyle'. For vendors, the programme is an opportunity to gain extra income. Cleanliness is an important aspect and garbage bins are provided to ensure the capital stays clean.
Another attraction at Bandarku Ceria, apart from visiting Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien, is a cruise on the Brunei River. From the waterway, the visitors can see much of the beauty and calmness of Kampong Ayer with its water taxis and fishing boats plying to and fro.
