Brunei Gastronomy Week 2019

The Tourism Development Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism will organised "Brunei Gastronomy Week 2019", for the third time. The Brunei Gastronomy week will be held from the 23rd of February to 10th of March 2019, in conjunction with the 35th National Day. In preparation to the event, a "Chef Retreat Programme" was held this morning to gather several chefs from local hotels and restaurants. Acting Director of Tourism Development Department in an interview with RTB said that the objective of programme was to discuss preparations for Brunei Gastronomy week which carries the theme "KUNYIT" or turmeric as basic ingredient in cooking. The programme took place at Eco Ponies Garden in Kampung Lamunin, Tutong.

 

According to Dayang Salinah binti Salleh, the programme also hoped to give the chefs from local hotels and restaurant the opportunity to share and exchange ideas on menus which will be forwarded during the event. Apart from that, it also aimed to create awareness on Bruneian cooking as well as to encourage more hotels and restaurants to serve local foods and enhance their serving towards providing a unique Bruneian gastronomical experience for those in the country and tourists.

 

Earlier, participants took part in team building games. Participants were required to search for natural ingredients which can be found at Eco Ponies Garden as their side dishes. Meanwhile, in the "Chef Cook Out" competition, participants were divided into groups and needed to create a new or current menus.
