Opening Of the 15th International School Brunei (ISB) Borneo Global Issues Conference

Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Haji Salleh Ab Rahaman in a Sabda emphasises the importance of collective cooperation among all parties in addressing climate change. According to Her Royal Highness, failure to act would threaten global security and prosperity. In the Sadba, during the Opening Ceremony of the 15th International School Brunei (ISB) Borneo Global Issues Conference, ISB-BGIC, yesterday morning, Her Royal Highness also expresses appreciation towards the involvement of youth in together tackling the issue of climate change. The conference was organised by International School Brunei (ISB).
Upon arrival, Her Royal Highness who is the Royal Patron of the conference was greeted by Mrs Laura Thomas, the Executive Principal of ISB. Her Royal Highness then presented certificates to schools participating in this year's conference.
Mrs Laura Thomas, in her keynote address said that among other things, the conference aims to promote youth leadership which will benefit the country. A musical performance enlivened the ceremony.
During the conference, the two invited speakers shared their views. Hannah Testa, the founder of 'Hannah4Change', an organization dedicated to fighting issues that impact the planet, is also a board member, advisor, and youth ambassador for a half a-dozen organization including Plastic Pollution Coalition and 5 Gyres Institute. Meanwhile, Rita Kimani from Kenya, is a co-founder of 'FarmDrive', a social enterprise that connects unbanked and underserved smallholder farmers to credit.
In her Sabda, Her Royal Highness touches on the Paris Agreement, highlighting that His Majesty's Government has embarked on several initiatives and in keeping with the 'Heart of Borneo' initiative and increased the country's gazetted forest reserves from 41 percent to 55 percent of its total land area. Her Royal Highness then presented souvenirs to the invited speakers, sponsors and supporters of the conference.
With the theme, 'Climate Action' this year's conference raises awareness of the real threat of climate change, which is affecting countries, communities and countless lives. The main aim of the conference is for every young delegate to feel empowered enough to be heard and to feel capable of making a difference, however large or small.
