70pc of Smoke Cleared at Anduki

 March 31st, 2016  |  05:31 AM  |   1419 views

ANDUKI, KUALA BELAIT

Around 70 per cent of the smoke from the blaze which broke out from the tyre filled junkyard in Anduki on March 29 has been cleared.

This was stated by Awang Haji Sulaiman bin Mohd Yusof, Commander of the Seria Fire Station, who led 27 firefighters from the Seria Fire Station and the Sungai Liang Fire Station to combat the blaze yesterday.

According to the fire station commander, there is still fire due to the tyres buried under the burnt debris and a strategy has been devised to flood the area with water extracted from two floating pumps from a portable dam filled with supply by the Public Works Department and the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTRe).

"Monitor valves are being placed around the area and pointed to where there is still fire," said the station commander.

Haji Sulaiman added that the operation will pause at night and will continue the next morning.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, the total area affected by the fire is estimated to be around two hectares.
