The Brazilian Socialist Party (PSB) on Friday announced its nomination of Geraldo Alckmin, a former Sao Paulo state governor, as the vice-presidential candidate and running mate of presidential candidate Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in October's elections.
Lula, a member of the Workers' Party (PT) and two-time former president, attended the event announcing the nomination along with Alckmin. The former presidential rivals are joining forces to run against President Jair Bolsonaro, who will be seeking re-election.
"To add power and breadth to the resistance that will be led by comrade Lula, the PSB proposes comrade Geraldo Alckmin join the ticket," Carlos Siqueira, the PSB's president, said at the event.
Alckmin and Lula promised to work together to win the elections and to present a common government platform should they win.
"We are going to join forces to rebuild the country," said Alckmin
