Covid-19 Watch: 65 Students At Cyberjaya Boarding School Test Positive

PUTRAJAYA

A total of 65 Form One and Form Two students at Sekolah Seri Puteri in Cyberjaya have tested positive for Covid-19, says Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin (pic).

His communications team posted the information in a tweet on his official account on Wednesday (Dec 1) night, Bernama reported.

According to the team, Radzi visited the school to check on the situation.

"This is the first time a boarding school has reported these many cases. Pray that all affairs will be eased,” said his team in the tweet.

In a video posted to his official Facebook and Twitter, Radzi said that the cases originated from a teacher.

"Close contact tracing found that another teacher tested positive (for Covid-19) and six students tested positive. These six students are in the school and are being observed by the school authorities," said Radzi in the video.

He added that the Sepang District Health Office had conducted Covid-19 tests on 200 students on Wednesday afternoon, and 65 of the 200 tested positive.

"The 65 have been brought to the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) quarantine centre for observation," said Radzi.

Radzi then said that saliva tests would be done on the remaining students of the school to see if more cases are detected.

Last year, the Education Ministry said it could close any school in the country for seven days if a Covid-19 case is detected without having to wait for the Health Ministry’s confirmation.

Educational institutions under the Ministry in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Melaka resumed operations on Nov 1 following their shift to Phase Four under the National Recovery Plan from October 18.
