BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

An increase in prices has been driven by a number of factors among them cost increase from overseas suppliers, operational costs for local suppliers and additional delivery services costs compared to before the spread of COVID-19.

A joint inspection was conducted by the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics, JPES, Ministry of Finance and Economy with the Fisheries Department, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism at the Gadong Wet Market and Tamu Kianggeh, 22nd December. It was found that a majority of the fish supply at the market was imported from neighbouring countries. The finding wss a result of inspections and discussions with the vendors. The visit was led by Dayang Hajah Latifah binti Haji Mahmud, Acting Director General of JPES. The local fish supply at this time has decreased due to the monsoon season which can be dangerous for fishermen to be at sea.
