59 food premises were inspected during the large-scale patrols by the Enforcement Officers of Halal Food Control Division, Syar'iah Affairs Department at Batu Bersurat, Bandar Seri Begawan and the surrounding areas. In the operation, 31 food premises were found not to have applied for Halal Certificate.

The operation also found three premises have used the Islamic Religious Council halal label or logo without permission and 6 premises displayed expired halal certificates. The premises were issued notices and instructed to immediately removed expired Halal Certificates and unauthorized Halal labels. Failure to comply will result in legal action under Section 12 '3' 'A' and Section 35 of Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order, 2005 which carries a fine of up to 4 thousand and $8,000 respectively or imprisonment of up to 1 year and 2 years respectively or both. Application to obtain a Halal Certificate or Halal Permit for food businesses operating in the country is mandatory.
