Deputy Minister Of Foreign Affairs Receives New UNDP Resident Representative

(KPL) On Jul 30, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune received a letter of credence from new Resident Representative for the United Nations Development Programme – UNDP - to the Lao PDR Martine Therer. At the amicable talks, Mr. Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune spoke highly of the sound relations and cooperation between the Lao PDR and the UNDP.

The host expressed his hope that the new Resident Representative of UNDP to the Lao PDR will continue to strengthen cooperation with Laos and support the latter’s development in line with the priorities stated in its 9th national socio-economic development plan and other national development plans through implementing Laos-UNDP cooperation strategies.

 

The host called on the UNDP to continue to support the Lao government’s efforts in implementing its development priorities as well as the Sustainable Development Goals and other international development agendas and promote the government’s commitment to graduating from the status of the least developed country in the future.

 

The Vice Minister also assured the guest that the Lao government will continue to support and work with UNDP to implement cooperation projects in Laos.

In reply, Ms. Martine expressed her pleasure at being allowed by the government of the Lao PDR to serve her noble duty in the country.

 

She assured the Vice Minister that she and her team in the Lao PDR will continue to strengthen cooperation with the Lao government to actively implement cooperation projects thus facilitating the fulfillment of the development priorities of the Lao PDR.

 

UNDP has been working alongside the Lao Government for more than four decades focusing on key priorities including inclusive prosperity, governance and rule of law, and environment, climate change and resilience, including helping institutions and communities to better cope with and recover from the shocks caused by climate change and other natural disasters, according to UNDP Lao PDR.
