Indian Man Receive $21K Fine for Possessing Smuggled Cigarettes

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

 

The Magistrate's Court yesterday ordered a 36year-old Indian man to pay a fine of $21,000 or serve jail for 8 months in default of payment for the possession of smuggled cigarettes.

 

Mohamed Rifay Abusalih admitted before Senior Magistrate Haji Nabil Daraina bin Pehin Dato Ustaz Haji Badaruddin to the possession of 25 cartons and 12 packets of smuggled cigarettes in his car when he was stopped by Customs preventive officers on the roadside in Kampong Tanjung Bunut at 7.10pm on September 1 2016.

 

He also admitted that he was later brought to his house in Kampong Tanjung Bunut by the officers, where they found him in possession of 32 cartons and one packet of smuggled cigarettes.

 

The defendant admitted the cigarettes were for sale.
