PENAMPANG

A man died while being treated at a hospital an hour after he was involved in a road accident along Penampang Road here yesterday morning.

Mohd Izwanizam Stephenson, 27, from Kampung Bayangan, Keningau succumbed to severe head and body injuries at the intensive care unit of Queen Elizabeth Hospital at 5.25am.

The victim was driving his sedan out from a junction when a 4WD vehicle rammed into him around 4.10am.

He was pinned at the driver’s seat and it took several minutes for the Penampang Fire and Rescue Departmentpersonnel to free him.

District police chief Superintendent Rosley Hobden said the victim was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead by doctors about an hour later.

“We have detained the 24-year-old driver of the 4WD vehicle to assist police investigation,” he said yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
